Face of Wales Hair and Beauty Show 2012: Competition Now Open
 

The Wales Hair and Beauty Show will be taking place on Sun 1st July 2012 in St David’s Hotel, Cardiff, which is a trade event for the hair and beauty industry serving Wales and surrounding areas.

As part of the show, the organizers are looking for a fresh new look to represent the face of the show from.

Entry Requirements:

Entrants must be over 18 and living in the UK or Ireland
Competition is open to entrants from the following categories; hair and beauty professionals, makeup artists, models or photographers.

-  An edgy look that reflects the latest hair and beauty trends offerings for
 women in 2012.

- Features can include, make-up, hairstyling, hair extensions, nails, eyelash extensions etc (preferable to show as many as possible) and include a close up facial image and also full model image against suitable background with appropriate fashion and accessories. No nudity allowed.

Model pics needed on a plain or light background where possible and provided in a format suitable for print or website use.

Winner must assign copyright for image for use on show promotion with credits given to all.

Entry limited to 3 images.

Winner will be chosen by Wales Hair and Beauty reps and winner will be announced on the Beauty Finder website.

Closing Date: Competition closes Wed 25th Jan 2012.

Have a go at beauty – it might lead to an exciting career!

London College of Beauty Therapy is inviting young people from the Capital and Home Counties to have a go at beauty – as part of WorldSkills London 2011 initiative to create 1 millions Have a Go opportunities across theUK. Taking part could even lead to a lifetime career in the fast-moving worldwide beauty industry.

The first ‘Have a Go at Beauty’ event will take place on the afternoon of Thursday September 29 (12- 5pm) at London College of Beauty Therapy, 47 Great Marlborough Street, London W1, 5 minutes from Oxford Circus.

Young people aged 14+ will be provided with fun and instructive introductions to a range of hand treatments, nail art and even retail window dressing – a fantastic opportunity for those with an interest in visual merchandising or a career in the retail industry. 

The day will also provide the chance to meet with beauty experts to speak about training and the wide range of career options available within the industry in the UKand overseas.

 The initiative is part of the London College of Beauty Therapy’s involvement with World Skills London, which takes place at the ExCeL exhibition centre between the 5th and 8th of October, 2011.

 Two further ‘Have a Go’ days will take place on October 5^th 2011 and on January 20^th 2012.

NAILING LONDON

The biggest and best nail competition lands in London for 3 days (Sept 17-18-19 2011) at Olympia Beauty. Fingers ready…..

The Nailympics Competition has been the leading international nail tournament and drawn thousands of competitors from over 50 countries worldwide at its various global locations since its inception 10 years ago. FromLas Vegas to London the Nailympics has created an artistic atmosphere where a beginner or seasoned professional nail technician can test their skills against the best competitors in the world.

The Nailympics’ mission is to provide a venue for technicians of all skill levels to compete and receive a fair assessment and at the same time, be exposed to international talent to network with and learn from.

With the addition of more categories the Nailympics London 2011 will be over 3 days for the first time. “We’re expecting this year’s competition to be the highest standard yet, there’s high hopes for 2011” according to Alex Fox, the competition organiser.

The UK has hosted the London since 2005 and year-on-year has seen a growth in competitors and sponsors. For 2011 it sees 9 industry sponsors: Scratch, Gloss, Nailure, REM, CIBTAC, Artistic Nail Design, Hand & Nail Harmony, EzFlow, Cuccio, OPI, IBD and Nubar. Last year saw 325 competitors over the 3 divisions and 10 different disciplines. Over 26 countries were represented. 2011 is on course to exceed this substantially. This is due in part to the phenomenal coverage the competition received from the World’s press in 2010 including full pages in the Daily Mail, interviews with past champions of ITV’s Daybreak and coverage of the Nailympics London in over 75 different countries.

Judges, who hail from all over the world including Australia,Singapore,USAandRussia, are jetting in to support theirUKand European colleagues. Head judge, Lysa Comfort has been judging Nailympics from its USconception back in 2001. Lysa has mentored many competition champions throughout her career and has been honoured to judge internationally. Leading the UK is Marian Newman. Marian proudly claims over 50 Vogue covers in her role as one of the top leading session techs in the UK today. Enjoying activities that include fashion week, editorial and celebrity nail grooming, Marian also writes nail standards, is chairperson of the Nail Services forum at Habia, is an author of technical journals and a product innovator.

BEAUTY’S GOT TALENT

The inspirational panel event at Olympia Beauty 2011 has never seen at any beauty show before.

New to Olympia Beauty 2011 is an event so exclusive only a lucky 50 will get a pair of tickets. Beauty’s Got Talent is a panel session bordering on the spectacular, with some of the industry’s top names and you could get to ask them any question you like.

The Magnificent Seven come from the fields of make-up, tanning, permanent cosmetics, lashes, skincare and nails. The Guests are at the top of their game, have the ear of top beauty directors and celebrities and they’ll all be at Olympia on Sunday 18th September from 1.30pm.

Richard Ward and Hellena Ward, the royal coffeures are on hand as well the fabulous Trish Lomax, Dior’s first nail ambassador   Make-up artist expert Louise Page, who has made a remarkable turn around from prison officer to an A-list make-up artist, is also part of the panel.

Free Summer Beauty Courses for 16-18 Year Olds

This summer London College of Beauty Therapy are running a range of free City and Guilds short courses for students under 19 years of age.

These fun and informative Award courses are recognised by employers and only take a few days to complete; ideal for students over summer!

Young people can learn new skills such as Make-up, Nail Art and Nail Extensions to get a taste of the beauty industry or to add to existing expertise.

These free beauty courses are starting in June and will run throughout summer 2011 at LCBT (located in central London, 5 minutes from Oxford Circus) however places are limited so students are advised to book quickly.

The City and Guilds Award courses are funded by the government for 16-18 year olds and provide the ideal opportunity for young people to gain experience within the growing beauty industry. LCBT currently have over 500 vacancies registered at their JobShop and are committed to helping their students find employment after their studies. They hope that these free summer courses will help to promote the beauty indusrty as a whole and allow more young people to enter the fast paced, fun world of make-up, nails and beauty therapy.
